COMFORT ZONE: Homeless by Freddy Robinson
Comfort Zone: Homeless. A book about a homeless weekend I spent in Albuquerque, New Mexico, June 18th-21st, 2011. The trip was planned with the intentions of meeting a man who had paid projects coming up, so I followed up with intentions of getting to work after being unemployed for nearly two years....still am. Things didn't go as I planned. However, the experience was priceless and what transpired was a peaceful expererience according to God's loving care, as he chose a select few or "starting five," to bless me. Compassion led the way as God worked in mysterious ways, birthing the detailed and inspirational book.
Blessings,

Food For Thought
One day somebody told me
“a man who doesn’t work doesn’t eat,” yet they knew I was looking for jobs daily.
Days later, I boarded a plane for Albuquerque, New Mexico. I had no money in
my pocket and dared not borrow from those who already mocked me,
looked down on me. I had arranged hopes of finally having a
job after nearly two years of unemployment. My first night in
Albuquerque I realized I was officially homeless, after my so-called contact
and job lead fell through. God kept me fed anyway, with peace and without
measure - and I still see his footprints.

I had a balance of $181.00 left over on an American Airlines gift card, enough to cover
the round ticket price of $161.00 for the trip. Although I had applied for
hundreds of jobs all across the U.S. and had some decent leads in a few other
states, New Mexico was the only place I could afford to fly to.

I e-mailed my two contacts and leads in Albuquerque,
both of whom replied saying “contact me when you get here, looking forward to
meeting you.” I was pumped, excited, jazzed, you name it! It had been two years
since anyone in the U.S. said “I’d love to work with you.” Things were lined up
and in place. A chance to re-join a working society, earn wages, a distant dream
come true. However, I had no money and knew I couldn’t afford luggage fees. I
unpacked and repacked so many times in 24 hours that I mastered it.The pieces were all in place and I was ready. I
welcomed this peaceful transition into the “unknown,” something all the money on
Wall-Street couldn’t buy; whether I had I place to stay in Albuquerque or not-
and I didn’t.

The wheels touched the runway and I started thinking to myself, “ I have a long, long, walk ahead of me- in
the dark. Talk about “valleys in the shadow of death,“ my wheels were turning;
yet I felt prepared for anything and everything. The plane slowed to a cruising
pace on the runway and soon pulled up to drop me off in new circumstances. I had
no worries, doubts, or fears. I held onto peace, and my newfound strength had
already kicked in once the plane landed.

After calling the last shelter I decided it was too late to try and find my around, especially in the dark. I gathered my things and started back towards "my chair" near the water fountain, until I caught a sign out of the corner of my eye. From afar, the sign read "mediation room" but the closer I got to it; it said "Meditation Room." I thought to myself "how odd, having this at an airport" as I entered the room set up like a mini Chapel. This would be my room for the night.
